There's a particular bunch of good buggers in Aussie right now. They are part of the Legalise Vaping Australia group. These guys are straight up. And brutally realistic.
Legalise Vaping Australia have recently responded to a report by The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), which stated that there are health benefits for smokers who switch to vaping and the uptake by non-smokers is rare.
Brian Marlow, the campaign manager for Legalise Vaping Australia, said the report quantified points his organisation had been making for years.
"They've shown the gateway theory, that vaping leads to smoking, just doesn't exist; they've shown that vaping reduces smoking rates; they've shown that it's safer than smoking," he said.
"This is not a harmless technology, it's just significantly less harmful than tobacco and that's what we're trying to get across."
And this is the key point. And the point these guys are trying to make the Australian government understand. And it's not a hard concept to understand. So why is something a 4-year-old can grasp not something ministers in the Australian government can get their heads around?
The answer is 'of course they can'. Of course, ministers such as Greg Hunt know vaping is safer than traditional cigarettes. A quick google search can validate this. And Legalise Vaping Australia makes the message clear.
So what can we do? Well, first, support these guys - Legalise Vaping Australia. Visit their site. Sign the petition. Make the ministers have to be accountable to the facts and public pressure rather than to backhanders and lobbyists.
Australia has a proud history of coming together to fight a cause and winning. I hope you join the cause, not for vaping sake, but for the sake of truth.
